The technical field in India is growing rapidly. There is a lot of talent in India in the software and web development fields. It is very common to see companies in the United States using employees located in India. It is less expensive to hire a software developer based out of India than it is to hire a developer local to the United States, and both regions are full of talented developers. Many times when calling for technical support, someone from India answers the phone. Whether they are physically located in India or not depends on the company, but lately many companies have began migrating support centers to India, or have opened additional offices in India to take advantage of the technological expertise that they provide.

With how huge the demand for developers is right now, I don't feel like there's much chance of India becoming the one and only place to find software engineers. However, it is something to keep in mind as we all get ready to enter the workforce. We need to be the best developers we can be to set ourselves apart from the competition - at home or abroad.
ReplyDeleteI think as a programmer, it really is alarming to see how many American jobs are being taken by Indians. However, this is simply economics: since it costs less to do it there and the quality is still very good, it makes perfect sense why American companies would hire so many Indians. We shouldn't be mad at them for their adeptness in computer technology. However, as Stephen pointed out, we do need to whip ourselves into shape so that we can measure up to the competition around us.
